That time of year

Yep, it's that time of the year when on paper you are a year older but in fact, it seems like just another day with a special twist to it.
Yes, birthdays usually make us feel like going down the nostalgic road to find out if you have made quite a difference. This isn't one of those birthdays though. The plan was set: lunch at Shakey's. I even decorated my own cake. Now how unorthodox can this birthday be huh? No party...just a day out with the kid and the family. It was simple but fun. Just the way I like it.
Birthdays are either for remembering, pondering and planning a better route for yourself from this day on. That's good. That makes sense to do. Yet today, I just want to sit back and enjoy what I have. Like what I always tell my friends, I've simplified my life. It's not easy, nor is it difficult. It's just that I want to.
So there. The birthday came and went, but the taste of Shakeys in my mouth and the laughter we shared will linger.
