Touching base

Today I had a 3-hour lunch with high school batchmates. It was so much fun. We had a really great time. Nostalgia galore. More importantly, it was a good break from the daily grind of work, work and more work. It was more than just unwinding...it was touching base with the past that, by hindsight, has affected us more than we can ever know.

It's just fitting to be face-to-face with people I exchange emails with in our batch egroup which has been pretty active lately in nostalgia-tripping. The good thing about that lunch is that we spent almost the whole time laughing. There were no bad words said about other people...just talking about how it was and how funny all those are now that we are older and wiser.

It's really good for the soul to touch other people again and again...especially those you never had the chance to interact with. The amazing thing about technology right now is that it does connect people...and I am not talking about Nokia only. Through instant messaging, I am able to chat with those batchmates I probably talked to once or twice only...or even never. Time has a way of levelling the playing field, so to speak, and now we are all on equal footing. It is so good to have another shot at knowing the people I went to school with.

Try touching base with those from your past...it's good for the soul.
